About Lavender

Essential Oils are extracted from plants and flowers and have been used in skin care for millennia.
Essential Lavender Oil is renowned for its medical powers and is used to treat a number of conditions. The beautifully fragrant Lavender has long been known to work as an antiseptic and was utilized during World War I in hospitals as a disinfectant. Today, Lavender oil is used by many for a variety of ailments and as an aid in maintaining good health. Homeopaths swear by its healing properties and recommend its usage. Lavender essential oil is especially popular as it has a pleasing scent and it has antibacterial, antifungal properties and is so gentle, it can be used with infants. It is mood altering and has a relaxing smell that can ease insomnia, stress and depression. It is also effective in treating joint and muscle pain, headaches, hair loss and skin problems, such as acne and eczema, moisturising your skin. It has been used to speed the healing of burns and it is known as a calming, “sedative” essential oil. The Oil can also be used to add flavour to your cooking. For most purposes, use diluted.

Dilution

This dilution recipe makes 1 fluid ounce of 2 percent Lavender oil.

1 Pour 1 fluid ounce of a carrier oil into an empty bottle. Most high-quality vegetable oils, including sesame, olive, avocado and hazelnut, work well as a carrier oil.
2 Add 6 drops of Lavender essential oil to the bottle using the eye dropper.
3 Swirl the oils together and store the bottle in a dry, dark place. This mix is a bit greasy – look at ‘Super5 Salve’ below, or just use Aloe Vera instead of the vegetable oil

Make a gentle facial cleanser

1 If you do not have any skin reaction to your test, it is safe to use Lavender to cleanse and soothe the skin. Starting with 4 ounces of liquid glycerine soap or castille soap, add 10 to 15 drops of Lavender essential oil. Shake the liquid and use as needed.
2 Sweep away dead skin cells with a mild skin astringent. Whether you have dry, normal, oily or combination skin, (some parts oily, other parts dry), you can use this astringent daily. After cleansing the skin, sweep a cotton ball soaked in distilled witch hazel and 2 to 3 drops of Lavender. Do not use on the delicate skin under the eyes.

How to Make Heating Massage Oil

Combine five drops each of all the essential oils (lemon, Lavender, rosemary and grapefruit) in a glass bottle or jar. Seal the jar and let the essential oils mellow and mix together for a couple of days. This will allow the oils to sufficiently blend into each other.
Add about 2 oz. of coconut oil to the essential oils mix, and shake the bottle vigorously to blend. Coconut oil is a natural oil that is an excellent skin softening moisturizer. It's also known for its stress-relieving properties.
